This week I met with Susanne Prinz, who runs the public art projects at Rosa-Luxemburg-Platz. One of their permanent pieces is a work by Clegg & Guttmann, situated in a spot where people just like to sit and gather and sometimes have parties. They integrated the whole ‘sitting idea’ into the work by making it into a kind of room or stage, other than that it is a monument for monuments: the Monument for Historical Change. Parts of several other Berlin momuments have been worked into it – including a piece of the fantastic ‘Märchenbrunnen’ in Volkspark Friedrichshain. Again a bit of a conglomerate of sculptures, but this time tied together by a strong concept.
In the back on the right there is a sign that explains the references to the other monuments, visually it is a bit of a pity but on the other hand it’s good that the information is there. Check out all the projects at Rosa Luxemburg Platz here.
