Elmgreen and Dragset’s monument

Elmgreen and Dragsets monument to gay victims of the Holocaust on the edge of Tiergarten. I didn’t realise it was so close to the Holocaust monument – which explains the shape of it I guess, and why it’s slightly tilted.

A monument of this type is a very tricky thing. Although the link with Peter Eisenman’s Holocaust memorial is a strong statement, this also makes it into a bit of a ‘fringe show’. You wonder whether all types of Holocaust victims should have their own memorial now – and strangely it suggests that Eisenman’s memorial doesn’t include gay victims, which I think it does.
